My Valentine’s Day Dates

Valentine’s Day is one of the few occasions where there is more than to just giving and receiving gifts. It’s just a few more weeks and if you want to make this Valentine’s Day special for your loved ones, here are some low-budget ideas that will surely hit the spot:

REMEMBER YOUR SPECIAL SOMEONE(S) and PLAN AHEAD

This “special someone” I refer to include, but  not limited to, your boyfriend or girlfriend, parents, grandparents, siblings, friends and co-workers. Even if they say that Valentine’s Day is cheesy (I know there are those around you who do), the truth is everyone likes to be remembered on this special day.

Think of the best way to greet them on Valentines Day and prepare ahead of time. The type of relationship you have with them will determine how much effort you should put on greeting them for that day.

Co-workers – A simple email or text message will do. However if you feel like doing a little bit more than words and sentences, try giving them chocolates. I’m sure they are not expecting anything from their co-worker but that is what will make it more special. Not to mention, plus points on your work ethics.

Friends – If separated by a long distance, give them a call or a text message and greet them. But if not, give them chocolates or a greeting card. You and your friends can also hang out for a meal or a movie or even just a simple get-together at home, considering they have no other plans.

Siblings – The smartest thing to do is to give them CHOCOLATES! My sisters and brother love eating chocolates and they look forward to Valentines Day only because of this. Of course you can buy other things, but chocolates are not as expensive and are well-appreciated most especially during Valentine’s Day.

Parents and Grandparents – There are countless ways to make them happy and all you need to do is just to put them in action. First, treat them out, be it lunch, dinner, etc. This will definitely make them happy and special. But if you are tight on budget or still studying, cook and prepare their meal. It does not matter if you can’t cook, ask help from your siblings or google the instructions. Remember that it does not take much to make your parents and grandparents happy so get creative and thoughtful! They deserve it.

Boyfriend/Girlfriend – A separate (and longer) post for this… I think we all know why Smile link will be attached here.

Now that you know what to give them, you can prepare ahead of time to ensure that everything goes as planned. Planning ahead will save you from fully-booked restaurants, from last-minute shopping, from spending more money, and from pressure to come up with something for your loved ones. The better the preparation, the better the result, and the happier they will be.

Valentine’s Day for some is just an ordinary day, but for me, it is a good reminder that we should tell the people around us how special they are to us. And that despite our busy schedule, we remember and appreciate them in our lives.

If you noticed, I did not include flowers in any of them. The reason is simple and very personal, I find good flowers too expensive and I’d rather eat bars of chocolates than watch a bouquet of roses wither Smile
